FAQs

  • Squarespace is an all-in-one website builder that allows the user to design, build, host, and manage the site all within the Squarespace platform. It is used by millions of businesses and individuals worldwide to create their websites.

For more information, visit the Squarespace website: https://www.squarespace.com/

  • In the years of designing websites, for the size and type of businesses I tend to work with, one of my greatest frustrations has been the added cost and complexity of the development stage (the coding part). This can easily add upwards of $7k to the overall fee and increase the project duration.

As technology has advanced, platforms such as Squarespace have emerged that allow designers to achieve what they want without the need to code a site from scratch. I prefer this way of working, as it enables me to deliver beautiful, user-friendly websites at a competitive price.

Furthermore, Squarespace allows designers with coding knowledge to add custom code to create unique design features that are not otherwise possible within the platform. This means that your website can be better aligned to your brand and differentiate you from generic templates. It's the best of both worlds as you gain the efficiencies of not coding a site from scratch while having the flexibility to deliver bespoke design features.

The platform is also straightforward for clients to use. You can keep your content fresh or make changes without paying your designer or developer every time!

Squarespace is my preferred platform over competitor platforms, as it's time-tested, robust, easy to use and has excellent performance stats.

  • No, not at all. I just like using this platform to deliver beautiful sites.

  • Any individual or business requiring a quality website that performs well.

Squarespace has an incredible range of functions built into the platform and there are plug-ins to deal with most other things that crop up.

Where Squarespace might not be the best option, I will make recommendations accordingly. For example, if you’re looking to sell a limited number products or workshops etc., Squarespace is a great solution and performs well. But if you’re looking to open an extensive online shop, I’d recommend Shopify instead – its sole purpose in life is eCommerce.

It’s not something I commonly encounter though–I find the Squarespace platform to allow for most needs and that’s why I’m committed to it.

  • This depends on the scope of your project, but cost estimates are given under each product description on the services page. If you’d like an exact cost, please reach out to discuss your project.

  • Refer to the ‘duration’ section under each product description on the services page.

  • It largely depends on my availability. I prefer not to rush, as quality projects take time. If you’re under unrealistic time pressure, you’re more likely to miss details; in web design, details matter.

If you’re unsure, contact me to discuss your project, and I’ll let you know if it’s realistic.

  • Part of my service includes tutorial videos that teach the basics of what you need to know to make simple updates to your website.

Beyond that, Squarespace provides an extensive library of tutorials, help articles and resources to help you navigate anything else you might want to dabble in.

Like any other website, if you have a more complex need you will either need to up-skill in Squarespace, or hire an expert to assist.

  • Yes, for the first 30 days post launch. This allows for us to iron out any kinks (if any) to ensure you’re on track. Additionally, you’ll be supplied with recorded tutorials on how to navigate Squarespace and make changes to the site we’ve designed.

From there, Squarespace have a team of people ready to answer anything you need help with. There is also an extensive resource library in their help section if you need to figure out how to do something to your site that is beyond what my tutorial videos cover.

  • You can build your own website using a template, which is how Squarespace positions itself to the general public, but you might want to learn about the limitations before you make a call on this.

For starters, there is typically an extensive knowledge gap in what it takes to build a successful website. Website design requires so much more than just how something visually looks–something these platforms tend to gloss over in their marketing efforts. It requires a deep knowledge of UI and UX, strategy, brand expertise, strategic content creation, and essential SEO… and that’s before you learn how to use the platform. Then, you need to know how to design a stunning site that speaks directly to and reflects your brand aesthetics, values, and positioning so that your website resonates with and engages your ideal audience.

Like anything, an experienced practitioner will always produce a better result. If not, you’ve found the wrong practitioner.

Some might be happy with a generic template, and to that, I say, give it a crack (it’s super fun when you’re not crying… I still cry sometimes). But my clients want their websites to work hard towards the success of their business, and appreciate this isn’t a given. If you’re one of the latter and would prefer to save your tears, I’d love to chat more about your project!

  • Before starting your web project, you'll need this, as it is all part of creating a website.

Getting this part right is essential, as it informs all future design decisions. It should be created by a graphic designer with brand development experience who understands the broader context within which it will be used and will take a strategic approach to its development.

If you need help with this, you might like to check out my Brand Builder Packages under ‘other services’ on the services page.

  • Sure do. If an agency doesn’t have inhouse capability, I’m happy to discretely help out. This can look like the full whammy from design through to build or to manage only the build for agencies taking care of the design side.
